Google Gains Market Share in October

Google continues to extend its lead in the Internet search market over its main competitors Yahoo and MSN during October, this is according to the internet market analysis firm Hitwise.

According to the latest Hitwise statistics, Google now commands 64.49 percent of total U.S. searches during the month of October 2007. Yahoo comes in second place with 21.65 percent, MSN (Live.com and MSN search) occupied third position with 7.42 percent of the total search market, and Ask came in fourth with 4.76 percent.

The new hitwise statistics show that Google has gained just under one percentage point over the month of September while both Yahoo and MSN seem to have lost market share for the same period, dropping from 22.55 percent and 7.83 percent, respectively.

These figures come in at a time when Yahoo, MSN and ASK.com are all aggressively ramping up their efforts to server better results in order to get a bigger slice of the search market and the lucrative sponsored advertising that comes with it.
