Google in all out Attack on Facebook

Google has joined forces with some the internet’s largest and most popular social networks to launch an all out offensive on the Social networking site Facebook.

The Google planned and let offensive plans to introduce a set of common standards for software developers to write programs for Google’s social networking site Orkut, as well as others social networking sites such as LinkedIn and Friendster.

Google’s offensive is aimed at breaking the virtual monopoly that facebook currently has in enabling third-party developers to write social networking applications for its site.  These applications are designed to be downloaded and shared by Facebook users.

Google’s aim with a cross-site, open platform strategy is to entice developers to start developing applications for its network thereby slowing down the momentum which has seen Facebook grow to 5,000 application since it began in May.

Facebook last week saw Microsoft invest $250 Million in it valuing the social networking site at close to $15 Billion.
