Microsoft Updates Live Search

Microsoft has updated its latest version of the Live Search Engine.  The updates include improved driving directions, better bird’s-eye and 3D imagery coverage for the US and an index of local content as well as content created by users.

Among the improvements,  geocoding updates for its Virtual Earth application as well and a beta version of MapCruncher, an application that enables users to create custom-made map mashups.

Also among Microsoft’s improvements,  the launch of voice input and GPS facilities for Live Search for Windows Mobile and Live Search 411,  a US directory service as well as Live Search for BlackBerry which can be downloaded for free from the Microsoft site.

Microsoft’s Satya Nadella was quoted as saying:

“Collectively, these improvements build on the work we did in core relevance and differentiated vertical experiences”

This is Microsoft’s latest attempt to improve its search offering to be able to better compete with Google and Yahoo.  This latest version promises better features including a bigger search index, as well as a new proprietary data extraction and algorithm models.
