Joost Launched at Cannes
Joost, the online TV network officially launched at the MIPCOM, the annual audiovisual content trade show in Cannes, France this weekend.
Joost provides users with more than 15 thousand shows over the internet and includes instant messaging and chat funcionality.
Joost, founded by Janus Friis and Niklas Zennstorm was launched last year and will eventually display content created by its own users, as well as by traditional broadcasters, Mike Volpi of Joost told the Associated Press.
“The internet will start off showing traditional entertainment, but eventually users and content creators will use the capabilities of the internet to create some amazing entertainment,” Vopi continued.
Yvette Alberdingkthijm, head of content strategy and acquisition at Joost added: ”Joost will also offer live television streams and video on-demand in the future.”
Joost’s most popular channels include Paramount Pictures, Alliance Atlantis Sci-Fi and the Onion News Network.
Other competitors in the internet video market include MSN, Yahoo! and AOL as well as YouTube and MySpace TV.
