Facebook Profiles Become Searchable
Facebook announced that it will now allow search engines such as Google and Yahoo to index the profiles of its millions of members.
This controversial news will come as a disappointment to many Facebook users who value their privacy, however Facebook has offered a choice those concerned to disallow search engines from indexing their profiles.
Facebook’s decision to allow search engines to index profiles in its database will see natural search traffic levels soar in the coming weeks as approximately 36 million profiles will be added to the search engine indexes. This natural search traffic will lead to more peole signing up to the social networking site.
Facebook has courted similar privacy contraversies in the past when members complained that their postings were viewable to their friends.
Facebook is a social networking website founded on February 4th, 2004 as an American Universities service but was soon opened up to the general public. Today, Facebook is the fastest growing social network in the UK.
