Google CFO Retires

Google’s CFOGoogle announced today that its chief financial officer, George Reyes,  will retire (age 52) by the end of this year.  Mr. Reyes has been CFO at Google for five years.

Eric Schmidt Google’s CEO had these words to say about Reyes’ departure:

“I’ve known and admired George since our days together at Sun and we will miss his thoughtfulness, good humour and wisdom”.

Schmidt added:

“as Google’s CFO, George successfully navigated our innovative IPO, the regulatory demands of Sarbanes-Oxley, and the management challenges of scaling a global finance organisation.”

Mr Reyes will remain in his current job until a successor is found but sources say that the transition is expected to be complete by January at the latest.

During his departure speech, Mr Ryes said that he was honoured to be a part of Google’s management team and that he is confident that company is being left in safe hands and will continue to build on its achievements.   He also described his time at Google as an “extraordinary ride”.

Larry Page (Google cofounder) praised Mr Reyes, saying that he has continually  maintained financial discipline within the company while also protecting its “entrepreneurial culture”.
