New Google Adwords Formula

The forumla used to decide which paid adverts show up at the top of the natural search listings has changed.

Previously Google used the actual cost per click paid by an advertiser and muliplied this figure by the “Quality Score” of the advert to come up with a weighting mechanism that decides which adverts show up where.

As of now, this formula has changed.  Google now chooses the maximum cost per click an advertiser is prepared to pay and multiplies this by the quality score of the ad to decide which paid adverts show up at the top of the natural listings.

What does this mean to advertisers?  According to Google, this doesn’t necessarily mean that advertisers will end up paying more for their ads.  It simply means that ads that weren’t previously able to show up at the top of the listings now can.

In the coming months we will begin to see how these changes translate on the ground, in the meantime if you have any questions about Google’s adwords changes, please feel free to contact us.
